Diffusing Capacity (DLCO)

What is this test?: DLCO measures how efficiently oxygen passes from your lungs into your bloodstream.
Why is it performed?: It helps assess lung diseases affecting the air sacs or lung circulation.
How is it performed?: You will breathe in a small amount of test gas, hold your breath briefly, then breathe out.
Before your test: Avoid smoking before your appointment if possible and follow any preparation instructions provided.
